For many years the trams running in Sofia were built by “Tramvaen zavod” (after 2002 called “Tramkar”). This company used to be owned by the city tram company then got privatised and now is back in the hands of Stolicen (Capital) Electrotransport EAD who run the trams and trolleybuses. The company has another subsidiary (“Transenergo and Railway Track”) that runs the ILiantsi permanent way depot and the works car depot Klokotnitza (which houses most of the rubber tired fleet) – the latter was the old tram depot no.1 and now is also home to the transport body “SOFIA URBAN MOBILITY CENTRE” EOOD which pays the operators for their services. Electrotransport EAD operates the following depots: Iskar (1435mm), Krasna poljana (1009mm), Banishora (1009mm), Iskar (trolleybus), Nadeja (trolleybus) and Levski (trolleybus – now just a workshop). Buses have been part of the company on and off over the years.
