Müncheberg – Buckow (DE) – August
This used to be a railway line run by Deutsche Reichsbahn but some years ago it was legally changed into a tramway (this makes operating it much easier: no signals needed). It has been run as a preserved line for many years now. Only one single car operated during our brief visit and it was used in regular service and also ran a “hands on driving experience tour” (not for us but maybe in the future…). We had hoped to see the “new” car from Orbe – Charnovay (CH) built in 1920 but this was in the shed.
The 2024 VDVA (www.vdva.de) tour took us to two tramway systems in Northern Germany and two “nearby” systems in Poland. We also visited two narrow gauge steam railways (ex Deutsche Reichsbahn).
